Hi again, Well these are the shots from Wednesday- we couldn't water as the hose had the end chopped off. I think some naughty kids managed to get put their hands through the gap and pull out the hose and chop off the bit they wanted for their bong.(photo 2)Thankfully it rained here last night so watering was done for us.(Jan or mandy can we get this fixed?)
New member - Catherine- from St Pauls- and she is super keen so all went well (Photo 4). Mary Ann bought some morning tea and made tea zoo we had a hot sweaty time. managed to get some snow peas in beds 2 and 4 ( along the string line of the beans and got some lime in as well). Sue came along with her recent bike wounds and did some weeding around the fruit trees. (photo 5)We put down some paper to smother the grass .The corn has come to an end (photo ^) and I think it was a roaring success so lets double it next year. The secret was in weekly watering and lots of worm wee and organic feeding esp at 8 inches and 18 inches. Saturday meet- we have 6 people from Northcote coming at 10 am with some seedlings to put in. So unless it rains I want to get one or two of the back beds opened for garlic and maybe sweet potatoes. and more asparagus seedlings. Spring onions and radish seedlings ready to go in for direct sewing. The brocoli and spinach have started to emerge and will be ready to go in in 4 weeks. The lettuce have all come up in th enlarge pit near the olive tree.(photo1) See you Saturday Janet |

Hi All, Well today was FANTASTIC- the team of 4 harvested, planted out some more beans, flowers, cucumbers and leeks (in beds 4 and 5-check the sign in book) and lettuce in the barrel pot ("F")
We also put some seeds in trays- broccoli, cauliflower and silver beets. Waterered, fertilised and mulched.Picked the last, slightly sad ,corn and started to pull up stalks but noticed that some beans are still using them as stakes. Hopefully we will get some rain over the next few weeks otherwise I will go down an water. We had a germ of an idea for the Easter show- weaving the lemon grass reeds into a basket and weaving in some kafir lime leaves- maybe a type of Easter wreath or bowl with round fruit (lemons as eggs?) Please check the sign on book. The lovely Andrew, from the council, fixed our hose and left a connection (on top of tour filing cabinet ) if we need to connect to the outside hose for town water if the barrels run dry. New member -Sue (there she is on the right)-will bring down a soaker hose if she can find it otherwise will buy one. We thought this would be good to use whilst we are there as you don't have to hand water but can soak a large area at once. Next meet Sunday 16th and next Wednesday 25th February. |
