July 20th Jobs:
Next meet we will concentrate on the back beds. There are 2 cleared out and we need to remove rubbish, plastic etc from the other 3. The idea is to get some crops in there that we don't need to do anything with such as lemon grass. Separating the bushes we have will make many more smaller plants.Any other ides?
Looking to put in a passionfruit vine so if anyone can get their little green thumbs on one bring it along.
I have cut 12 thin bamboo stakes and plan to set them up as a tripod for the beans or snow peas. I won't be at this meet but will bring the stakes down an start getting them ready.

Watered, why as it RAINED
tonight in Northbridge but pak chou seedlings all survived. Syd planted
some more brussel sprouts in one of the new raised pot beds (check the
book for which one) and Sue has returned after her OS trip and watered
all the beds.
We sewed some green manure seeds in 2 half beds (check book) and watered the council bed. Worms doing well but a bit slower in winter. Next meet planning to start work on some of the back beds. The first 2 taken by the preschool but the other 3 are all covered in weeds. So lets clear them out and we can cover them in green manure seeds (some left onto of filing cabinet or we can get some permanent herbs on them. I am growing some edible ginger and this is another crop that can stay in the same spot forever. Let me know what you think would work there. I will be away from 19-26th so will miss the next 2 meets but back for the Sunday fund raiser on 27th. Please go to our new web page (below) and add your items for the day. We are still building this site so let us know what you want on it. I am working on a GUEST GARDENER coming to do a workshop in Spring. Was thinking maybe a soil building or compost one? What do you think would be the best focus for a workshop???Chooks anyone ?? "Just to let you all know about a new app … called RipeNearMe enabling local growers to share their excess fruit and vegetables, notifying neighbors of the best time to pick up the produce in its prime. Those with veg beds, allotments or fruit trees — particularly those in the city — can register their growing projects and whether any spare goods will be free or priced…“Ripe Near Me” http://www.springwise.com/app-helps-users-find-local-fruit-veg-turned-ripe/ |
