The Garden, looking dry today we had some hose problems which Jan Felton will ask Chris to fix for us-Thanks Jan. Jan has taken over from Rhonda and came down today to see the garden.
Welcome to a NEW member today Sue Moody. Sue has moved into the Kiah site- and will be coming down fortnightly on Wednesdays. She is hoping to get some neighbours to join an maybe get some planting happening near their houses. We weeded, fertilised and watered the fruit trees. Worm weeded the corn and pumpkin (by hand as the hose not working). Harvested some juicy corn and baby beets . Andrew will help us out with getting some compost so at the end of February we can feed the soil and get in our Autumn crops. We didn't do any planting as we are in for a hot week so will do that next time. Easter Show- anyone who has an idea for this years show can you please email Tyrrell as we need to think about it soon and get some produce in. Next meet Saturday 1st . Maybe some seed raising ? Hi All,
Great meeting on 4th saw us harvest some of the corn which was sweet and I am happy to say contained all its kernels-no gaps! Richard took home the first one and we also dug up lots of baby potatoes, beans, beets and cucumbers. As you can see from the photos below I visited Hersonwood the home of Diggers in Victoria and bought some more seeds to get started for late summer crops and early Autumn. It was a beautiful place with rammed earth cafe, blue tongues and very productive garden. Its 1.5 hours south of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsular. I will be away for this Sunday so if you are going please take some vege scraps for the compost and worms. Easter show- start thinking about what we can do for our theme and let Tyrrell know . It would also be good to get some more compost for the garden to top the beds up end of February. It was quite cheap last time $60 for a ton which was enough but the delivery was $75. So if anyone has a trailer or ute perhaps we could pick up our own. Let me know. Wednesday Group- restarting Wednesday 29th from 9.00-9.30am. Cheers |
